Sunday 1st October

Services for the Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity are these:

10:30 Holy Communion at St John the Baptist, Middleton Scriven (hope the furniture will have been rearranged after the quiz night tonight, or it may turn out to be cafe church!)

16:30 Evensong from the Book of Common Prayer at St Mary, Stottesdon. Note the winter time of 4:30 pm now that we are into October.

18:30 Harvest Thanksgiving at St Giles, Farlow, followed by the produce auction.

Readings:

Ezekiel 18:1-4 – Sin and punishment

Philippians 2:1-13 – At the name of Jesus

Matthew 21:23-32 – By what authority?

Psalm 25:1-8

1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; O my God, in you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies triumph over me.

2 Let none who look to you be put to shame, but let the treacherous be shamed and frustrated.

3 Make me to know your ways, O Lord, and teach me your paths.

4 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you have I hoped all the day long.

5 Remember, Lord, your compassion and love, for they are from everlasting.

6 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions, but think on me in your goodness, O Lord, according to your steadfast love.

7 Gracious and upright is the Lord; therefore shall he teach sinners in the way.

8 He will guide the humble in doing right and teach his way to the lowly.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.

Collect for the Day

O Lord, we beseech you mercifully to hear the prayers of your people who call upon you; and grant that they may both perceive and know what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to fulfil them; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
