New Year’s Eve

Sunday 31st December is the fifth Sunday in the month, so we are holding a group service at 10:30 am at St Mary, Stottesdon.

This being the last day of 2017, we are marking it with a traditional language service. This year has been the five hundredth anniversary of Martin Luther publishing his famous ’95 theses’ in Wittenberg and so starting the movement we call the Reformation.

The great liturgist of the English Reformation was Archbishop Thomas Cranmer, and his Book of Common Prayer was the staple of English Sunday worship for over four hundred years – and is still in use today in many parish churches, and in many cathedrals for Choral Evensong.

So we shall see out 2017 with the service of Holy Communion from the Book of Common Prayer. And listen out for the bells of St Mary’s at the end of the day as they ring out the old year and ring in the new!

Readings for Sunday are:

Isaiah 61:10-62:3; Psalm 148:7-end; Galatians 4:4-7; Luke 2:15-21

Happy New Year!
